One of Auckland's top glamping spots since 2015

For the last decade, Fossil Bay Lodge has been an exceptional destination for travellers staying on Waiheke Island who love to be surrounded by birdsong, lush foliage, and tranquility. Five spacious Lotus Bell 'glamping' tents located across the Delamore family's large farm property host visitors from around the world from October to May every year at very affordable rates.

The Delamore family have owned and lived on the property since the 1960s and have since transformed it from empty grass pasture to a working organic farm and finally to the verdant landscape it is today. Fossil Bay Farm is a haven for native bird life, with tūī, pīwakawaka (fantail), kererū (wood pigeon), ruru (morepork owl), and many others often heard. Located a 5-minute drive away from Matiatia Ferry Terminal and a scenic 15-minute walk to Oneroa Village, it’s close to the action yet removed for an idyllic stay on the island.

Bookings now open for 2024-2025 Spring & Summer seasons

Fossil Bay Lodge is closed for the winter but will reopen for NZ Labour Weekend on Friday 25th October 2024. Our booking calendar is currently open, though, for the upcoming 2024-2025 season (25 October to 27 April) so be sure to book early to secure your reservation ahead of the crowds.

Been here before? Ready to book? Select your dates and number of guests from the search bar above or visit your desired glamping tent page from the Accommodation menu to make your reservation.

The glamping experience at Fossil Bay

Glamping - short for 'glamorous camping' - is the perfect marriage between staying in the great outdoors and enjoying hotel-style amenities. No need to pitch a tent, roll out a sleeping bag, or endure freezing cold showers just to experience the beauty of bush and wildlife. At Fossil Bay Lodge, every glamp is outfitted with convenience in mind to bring you the best of nature and comfort at once. Each bell tent includes:

  • Queen-size (or larger) memory foam bed, with bedding and towels provided
  • Fully covered sisal mat flooring
  • Indoor seating and tables
  • Private outdoor area with table and chairs
  • Private 'wine barrel' bathroom with hot water, rain-head shower, sink, and camping toilet
  • Battery-powered lanterns and battery charging packs for mobile phones/devices

A large shared lounge/kitchen is also available to all with a full kitchen, dedicated fridge space for each guest, WiFi access, washing machine, and more.

Positioned on Waiheke Island's northwestern tip, Fossil Bay Lodge is only a short ways from Oneroa village and the Matiatia Ferry terminal yet is still far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of a much more rural property. Owhanake and Oneroa beaches are a quick walk away and several Te Ara Hura walking trails are right at our doorstep.

What our guests have to say

Fossil Bay Lodge glamping on Waiheke Island is our new favoured Waiheke getaway for when we don’t want to travel far, but we want to feel worlds away from city life. The Fossil Bay glamping experience allows you to unwind and relax and feel like you’ve shipped yourself away to a remote island, but doesn’t come with the pain and hassle of having to set up your own tent or cooking arrangements. LoveYaGuts Travel, February 2024
I cannot say enough about this place. [...] The grounds are a pleasure to hang out in. We spent many hours reading, writing, and taking pictures of ducks. Beautiful gardens which feel special to spend time in. The area is perfect for a quiet getaway that is conveniently located. It’s a 15 minute walk to town for groceries or any meals you need, but the lodge is removed enough that you are in a quiet place that you could relax on all day. [...] 10/10 for a thoughtful and relaxing getaway. Peter, guest in 2023
